Methodology
How Gym Nepal collects prices, works out value and keeps the data honest. If anything here is unclear or wrong, tell us.
- Every number on Gym Nepal comes from a real recorded price or a public source we name.
- Nothing is estimated, guessed or back-filled. When we don't have a value, the site says so ("No price yet", "Not tracked yet").
- Shops and brands can't pay to be listed, ranked higher or removed.
1. Where prices come from
Each morning, around 6 AM Nepal time, automated workflows read the public product pages of the shops we track and record the listed price, the MRP (if shown) and whether the product is in stock. Pack size, serving size and the active ingredient per serving come from the product label or listing.
Shops tracked today (number of products): Daraz (36), MuscleBlaze Nepal (18), JiriHealth (17), Jiri Nutrition (6), Jeevee (3). We only use prices anyone can see on the shop's own page. We don't use private or member-only prices, and we don't add delivery charges.
2. How value is worked out
For each product we divide the price by the amount of the ingredient you actually get:
Rate = price ÷ (pack size ÷ serving size × active grams per serving)
So a 1 kg whey at Rs 4,000 with 24 g of protein in each 33 g scoop gives about 30 scoops and 727 g of protein: Rs 5.50 per gram of protein. Lower is better value. For products taken daily (such as multivitamins), the rate is the cost per daily serving.
| Category | Ranked by | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Whey protein | Rs/g protein | Ranked by rupees per gram of protein, using the scoop size and protein per scoop on the label. |
| Plant protein | Rs/g protein | Pea, rice and other dairy-free powders, ranked by rupees per gram of protein. |
| Creatine | Rs/g creatine | Ranked by rupees per gram of creatine. Most people take 3 to 5 g a day. |
| Mass gainer | Rs/g protein | Ranked by rupees per gram of protein. Gainers are mostly carbohydrate, so the price per gram of protein is higher than whey. |
| Collagen | Rs/g collagen | Ranked by rupees per gram of collagen peptides. |
| Fish oil | Rs/g omega-3 | Ranked by rupees per gram of EPA + DHA, the omega-3s that matter. A 1000 mg softgel often holds only 300 mg of them, so we use the omega-3 amount on the label, not the softgel size. |
| Men's multivitamin | Rs/day | Ranked by the cost of one day's dose, using the number of tablets per day on the label. |
| Women's multivitamin | Rs/day | Ranked by the cost of one day's dose, using the number of tablets per day on the label. |
| Peanut butter | Rs/g protein | Ranked by rupees per gram of protein, using the protein per 100 g on the jar. |
| Protein oats | Rs/g protein | High-protein oats ranked by rupees per gram of protein, using the protein per 100 g on the pack. |
| Protein muesli | Rs/g protein | High-protein muesli ranked by rupees per gram of protein, using the protein per 100 g on the pack. |
| Protein bars | Rs/g protein | Ranked by rupees per gram of protein, using the protein in each bar. Packs of several bars are counted bar by bar. |
3. Freshness, stock and missing data
- Each product shows when it was last checked. Prices not confirmed in the last 72 hours are flagged as possibly out of date.
- Out-of-stock products stay listed, marked as out of stock, and rank after in-stock ones.
- Price changes are measured against the first price we recorded for that product.
- If a label doesn't state the protein, creatine or omega-3 per serving, we don't guess. The product waits until we can confirm it.
4. Nepal Protein Index
The Nepal Protein Index tracks the daily cost of protein powder on Daraz Nepal only, so one consistent source drives it. It is a chain-linked Jevons index: each day it moves by the geometric average of every product's price change since the day before, the method national statistics offices use for basic price indices. 100 equals prices on the first day we recorded Daraz prices. Indices with fewer than 3 products are labelled "thin".
5. Gyms, trainers and events
- Gym fees come from the gym's own website, social media, signboard or a direct enquiry. Each gym shows its source and the date it was checked. Gyms can ask us to correct their details.
- Trainers apply themselves. We review every profile before it appears. "Verified" means we checked the certificate they uploaded, not that we vouch for their coaching.
- Events are collected from organisers' public pages and listings, with a link to the source. Always confirm dates and fees with the organiser.
6. Automation and AI
Gym Nepal is AI-driven and automated: workflows collect prices every morning and keep the site up to date without manual typing. Automation can still make mistakes, such as reading the wrong pack size. That's why every product links back to the shop, shows when it was checked, and can be reported.
7. Independence
Gym Nepal is independent. We are not owned by, and do not own, any brand, importer or shop we list. We don't sell products and don't take commissions, and rankings come only from the maths above. If this ever changes, we will say so on this page.
8. Corrections
Found a wrong price, pack size or missing product? Send us a message with the product link. We check every report, and corrections are made at the source so they carry into every daily update.
